Variety Positioning (SOLD OUT)
- RGT Wolverine is the first variety with tolerance to Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV) in wheat. It performed well in Agrii trials in 2019 with the highest yields (107%) of any variety tested and good grain quality (76.5 kg/hl). In official trials it also showed high untreated yields (81%).
- It has shown consistent performance across all regions of the UK but avoid areas of high sterility risk until more information is available. Based on information to date it is best drilled in the main drilling window and as a first wheat. It is relatively tall with average lodging resistance (untreated 6, treated 6) so use a robust PGR programme, especially in more fertile situations.
- Medium-late maturity (+3) and the competitiveness against grass-weeds is still being evaluated. RGT Wolverine has good disease resistance against Yellow Rust (5.8), Septoria tritici (5.8) and Brown Rust (8.2), but in spite of this it showed a big response for fungicides in Agrii trials. It appears to be relatively weak against Eyespot and it is not resistant to Orange Wheat Blossom Midge.
- Royalties will be collected via a different system called BIPO, Breeder’s Intellectual Property Office and will incur a higher royalty of £33/ha.
