Hacker
Variety Positioning
- Hacker has one of the highest specific weights (70 kg/hl) available and one of the lowest screening losses.
- Its best performance has been in the West (101%) but it has also found favour in the North (99%).
- Medium height (72 cm), one of the stiffest varieties (8 treated, 8 untreated) and excellent resistance to necking and brackling (9).
- All highly desirable characteristics and, to top it off, its earliness is unmatched by newer varieties.
- Good mildew (8) resistance, average brown rust (5) but its Rhynchosporium (5) resistance is slightly weaker than most varieties, so it needs watching.
- Moderate susceptibility to net blotch.
