Sassy
KWS Sassy received full MBC approval for distilling in 2017 and retains a small market share in Scotland.
- It is favoured for its excellent hot water extract, very low grain nitrogen (1.4%), excellent specific weight (69.6 kg/hl) and very low screening losses.
- Agrii’s Scottish trials over the last three years put its yield (97% treated, 82% untreated) just below those of Laureate.
- Its performance is starting to drop away in official trials and it is likely to be replaced by varieties like Belter over the next couple of years.
- Relatively tall straw (78 cm) with average standing ability (6) and brackling resistance (6).
- Its disease resistance is reasonable with mildew (8), brown rust (5) Rhynchosporium (6) and moderately susceptible to net blotch (5).
- Medium-late (+2) maturity puts it later than Laureate but earlier than LG Diablo.
