- Bold grain and strong dough characteristics attracted the interest of a regional miller for wholemeal flour. Premiums, based on protein content, can be significantly higher than those from standard bread-making types. This, combined with its late-drill suitability, makes it an ideal choice after potatoes and sugar beet or in high grassweed situations. Contracts are available in East Anglia and the East Midlands.
- Ideal for later drilling and, for best performance, drill from mid-October through to the end of December. Fast developing in autumn and spring and is very competitive against grassweeds. Reasonable foliar disease resistance against brown rust (5.8), Septoria tritici (5.1) but weak against yellow rust (3.7) so this needs attention.
- Requires a robust PGR programme (4 treated, 3 untreated), especially in more fertile situations. It has very early maturity (-4), making it earlier than Cordiale and an ideal entry crop for oilseed rape.
