Future proofing Agrii’s research

Delivering agronomic advice backed by research.

At Agrii, one of the ways we stand out in the industry is by delivering agronomic advice that's fully backed by our own research, ensuring sustainable and profitable farming systems for you, the grower.

We conduct our research in replicated small plot and tramline trials spread across 27 iFarms and Technology hubs throughout the UK.

Additionally, we coordinate many farmer-led split-field demonstration trials to scale up results from replicated small plot work to real-life crop production using large machinery.

In any given year, we at Agrii undertake over 300 trials covering all major crop types in the UK, including cereals, fruit, oilseeds, potatoes, and vegetables.

In these trials, we determine optimal varieties in different parts of the country, assess the efficacy of crop protection products, and explore the development of programs or the enhancement of adoption using adjuvants to achieve optimal crop yields or additional benefits from integrated crop management programs for you.

As UK agriculture and horticulture embrace new farming systems, technology, and products, we adapt our research to new methods to test products and services effectively, ensuring we continue to provide you with the best expert agronomic advice. Therefore, we've invested in a state-of-the-art glasshouse at Throws Farm, enhancing our capabilities within the research and development team.

Many future solutions will require more in-depth analysis to determine how you can obtain the maximum benefit from interventions with products. This includes determining exact modes of action, timing of application, and environmental conditions favorable to product efficacy, for example.

Having a glasshouse allows us to create these conditions as well as control the timing of pathogen infection or pest infestation, enabling us to fully understand all benefits provided by products for you.

In certain sectors, such as fruit production, the use of robotics to manage crops and apply products is gaining momentum. We will be able to match these technological advances in our own fruit trials, keeping our research relevant and valuable to you.

Additionally, many products contain similar active ingredients, biocontrol agents, or micronutrients. We need to effectively screen these products quickly for you.

When completed in the glasshouse, these screens are very cost-effective and ensure that only those products with the greatest efficacy and selectivity are chosen for further field-based research trials.

These learnings from the glasshouse can then be applied to small-scale plot trials, tramline trials, and farmer-led field-scale trials, ensuring we consider every aspect of sustainable crop production and help you proactively achieve your optimal triple bottom line.
