Drilling the winter wheat trials at the Bartonfields iFarm
The winter wheat trials were drilled last Thursday 16th October (see video below -54 seconds) at the Bartonfields iFarm, Church Broughton, near Derby. 20 different varieties were drilled, including BYDV tolerant RGT Wolverine, best standing variety KWS Parkin and RGT Lantern, which seems to be good in the first or second winter wheat slots. We are also looking at the effects of using Vibrance Duo with other seed treatments – i-Man, Agnition and Take Off, more pictures to follow.
Also on a separate field at the site, we have drilled four different varieties of hybrid rye to look at. This could be a great alternative to second wheat and potentially winter barley, providing excellent grass weed competition, easier disease management compared to winter wheat, and tolerance to Take-all. Add to that a great straw yield, and it could prove a valuable addition to the rotation on our mixed farms locally.
