Leading agronomy, technology and strategic advice company Agrii will be presenting the Dr Emrys Evans Award to the worthy winner at this year’s Royal Welsh Show on Monday 20th July 2015.
The prestigious accolade, which is also sponsored by Agrii, will be presented to Mr David Anthony of Sealands Farm, St Brides Major, Glamorgan, by Agrii Director Ronan Hughes, and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society President. Mr Anthony was one of eight nominees for the award from throughout Wales, who were each chosen by the Royal Welsh County Advisory Committees. His prize for the award includes £2,000, together with a certificate and a piece of Welsh Royal Crystal.
Mark Thomas, Agrii’s Head of Marketing said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring and presenting this highly regarded award to such a worthy winner and our congratulations go to Mr Anthony. The judges really had their work cut out in choosing between these enthusiastic, highly motivated and knowledgeable young people, and we are pleased to be involved in recognising these individuals. Congratulations to all of the nominees this year.”
The judging panel consisted of Sarah Byford and Cyril Davies BSc (hons), MIBiol, FRAgS. Nominees were assessed on their skills in all aspects of crop husbandry including: soil nutrition, choice of crops and selection of varieties, rotations, methods of cultivations and machinery used, selection and application of organic and inorganic fertilisers, pest and weed control, the environment, harvesting, storage and marketing.
This prestigious prize is given in memory of Dr Emrys Evans, a Royal Welsh gold medallist and chairman of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s board of directors, who died in office on the evening of the centenary show in 2004. The award was introduced in his memory two years later.
