SY Cheer

✚ The latest Group 1 wheat under evaluation by UK millers
✚ Improvement in disease resistance compared with existing Group 1 varieties

Variety Positioning

• The first new group 1 milling wheat for several years with agronomic improvements but it yields around the same level as the established varieties.

• Good grain quality with HFN 299s, specific weight 79.5kg/hl and high protein (13.0%). Not approved for export under uks. Best drilled as a first wheat.

• SY Cheer is a slightly taller variety (90.5 cm) but its straw strength is acceptable when treated with pgr (7) (7).

• Reasonable disease ratings for mildew (7.6), yellow rust (7.4) (8.3), Septoria tritici (6) (6.3) and slightly weaker on brown rust (5.5). It is later to mature (+1) (+2).

• Not resistant to orange wheat blossom midge.
