Optimising Your Crop Performance: RHIZA's Whole Field Seed Planner

Every crop begins with seed, so why not be precise in how it’s used?
Every crop begins with seed, so why not be precise in how it’s used?
Understanding and managing plant population is fundamental to crop success, yet it often faces challenges beyond your control—weed competition, soil type, and even the choice of seed treatment impact outcomes. RHIZA's innovative Whole Field Seed Planner tool empowers you to navigate these variables with precision, ensuring accurate seed calculations and avoiding the pitfalls of over- or under-ordering.
Revolutionising Seed Calculations: A Flexible Approach
"As a seed calculator, the Whole Field Seed Planner delivers a level of flexibility to a system that was previously archaic. It enables you to accurately calculate your seed needs on a field-by-field basis, considering varietal characteristics and external factors influencing establishment," explains Sam Fordham, RHIZA Head of Technical.
User-Friendly Precision: Tailoring Seed Rates to Your Fields
Designed with input from long-term RHIZA customers, the Seed Planner tool ensures user-friendliness and consideration of factors influencing seed rate decisions. You can adjust base rate calculations based on drilling date, soil type, and pressures like blackgrass or pest damage. Drawing tools and pre-scouted observations empower you to create polygons around specific areas, allowing for higher or lower seed rates as needed.
"If you have a drill supporting variable rate application, export GPS files for seamless transfer to the drill control unit. This entry-level, variable rate planning tool provides a cost-effective solution, eliminating the need for extensive sub-field mapping," highlights Sam.
Beyond Seed Calculations: Supporting Informed Decisions
Aside from enhancing seed accuracy, the Seed Planner supports scenario planning and informed decision-making based on crop performance.
Poppy Bunting, Agrii crop input specialist, explains, "The platform's analysis and comparison tools inform future decisions, utilising data layers like soil type, texture, yield maps, and imagery to investigate crop performance."
Adapting to Change: Dynamic Planning for Crop Variations
As cropping plans evolve, easily amend the plan to reflect new policies. Whether planning for different crop rotations or investigating the effects of drilling dates or seed treatments, each plan can be saved separately. The tool facilitates informed decision-making for factors like farm-saved seed quantity.
Towards the Future: Zone-Based Seed Planning Coming Soon
The Whole Field Seed Planner sets the stage for RHIZA's upcoming release—zone-based seed planning in September. This functionality supports seed plans based on soil texture and variety characteristics data.
Lab-based soil texture or soil scientist investigation data can inform variable rate plans, allowing you to refine decisions based on specific zones, exceptions, and scouted observations.
