Agrii: Championing Scottish Farming

A Decade of Commitment

With a team of nearly 50 agronomists dedicated to supporting farmers across Scotland, Agrii has firmly established itself as a leader in farm advice, technology, and supply. This comprehensive service represents decades of investment and innovation, reflecting Agrii’s unwavering commitment to Scottish agriculture.

Building on Strong Foundations

When Agrii was formed in 2012 through the merger of CSC Crop Protection, UAP, and Masstock, it inherited a robust presence in Scotland. The legacy of these companies laid the groundwork for Agrii to become the market leader, with a well-distributed network of depots, R&D sites, and a team of experienced agronomists.

"The history of the companies that make up Agrii has built trust among farmers," explains Greig Baird, Agrii’s Business Manager for the Lothians and Borders. "This trust is reinforced by the wealth of research data and the expertise of our team, ensuring farmers receive tailored advice backed by science."

Supporting Local Cropping Needs

Scotland has always been a priority for Agrii. Unlike others focusing solely on extensive wheat-growing regions, Agrii’s research addresses the unique challenges faced by Scottish farmers, including malting barley, potatoes, and vining peas. "Our decision-making reflects this focus," says Greig. "Scottish business managers report directly to Agrii’s board, ensuring the region’s needs are represented."

iFarms and Technology Centres

Agrii’s five iFarms and a technology centres in Scotland showcase cutting-edge agronomic practices. These sites host open days and discussions, enabling farmers to witness and evaluate the latest innovations. "Farmers value local data," Greig adds. "Seeing how varieties perform under local conditions is invaluable, and our iFarms provide this insight."

Tailored Services and Support

Agrii’s services extend beyond agronomy. Sprayer and liquid fertiliser contracting play a crucial role, with over 20 sprayers operating during peak seasons. "In Central Scotland alone, we run 12 sprayers," notes Colin Rennie, Business Manager for the region. "Our Kincardine Bridge facility produces liquid fertilisers, many of which we apply directly for our clients, offering a seamless service."

Agrii’s partnership with Viterra enhances this offering, connecting agronomy and crop inputs to grain marketing. "This collaboration creates opportunities for farmers to meet market demands, including premium systems like regenerative farming," Colin explains.

Preparing for the Future

Agrii’s investment in training ensures its team remains at the forefront of agronomic innovation. "At 47, I’m the oldest in my team," says Justin Taylor, Northern Scotland’s Business Manager. "Our young, dynamic team is well-equipped to navigate the future of farming."

With a focus on integrated pest management and the latest genetics, Agrii is helping farmers transition to sustainable practices. The introduction of RHIZA, a digital agronomy platform, and the continued success of the Master Leys grass seed brand, highlight Agrii’s role as a technology leader.

From our extensive research network to our dedicated agronomy team, our support for Scottish farmers is unparalleled. By combining tradition with innovation, we continue to provide the tools and expertise needed to meet the challenges of modern farming.
