Variety Positioning

• SY Cheer was introduced two years ago, offering average yields with several notable agronomic advantages. It has good grain quality, with a high specific weight and an average protein content of 12.8% in AHDB trials. Agrii data indicates that its protein-building capability is on par with Skyfall. Strong competition from KWS Vibe
  means SY Cheer must perform consistently and prove itself on farm. It is not approved for export under ukp.

  Its strongest performance is as a first wheat and it’s well suited to both heavy and light soils. SY Cheers is a taller variety (91 cm), but its straw strength is acceptable (7 treated, 8 untreated). It can be drilled safely and will perform well up to the end of January. Maturity is mid-range at +1. 

  Like many varieties, SY Cheer has seen a slight drop in disease ratings in 2025 . Even so, it maintains reasonable resistance levels: mildew (7 RL; 8 Agrii), yellow rust (6 RL; 6 Agrii), Septoria tritici (6 RL; 5 Agrii), and brown rust (6 RL; 5 Agrii). Eyespot resistance is low (3.7), similar to KWS Extase, so it should be addressed at T0 or T1 with prothioconazole. The variety is also very susceptible to stem-base diseases and does not carry resistance to orange wheat blossom midge.

  SY Cheer has performed well under blackgrass pressure in Stow Longa trials. With limited direct suppression of grassweeds, its relative yield in the presence of blackgrass ranked within the top 20% of all varieties when compared to their clean plots.
