Variety Positioning

• KWS Fowlmere is a high-yielding hard feed winter wheat variety that performed well in Agrii trials this year (105% treated, 81% untreated).

• It has also performed well in AHDB trials (106% treated, 88 untreated) and has a very bold grain (79.8 kg/hl).

• Its most notable trait is its earliness (-2), making it the earliest-maturing winter wheat on the current Recommended List.

• Early indications suggest that it is suitable for export under ukp.

• It performs consistently across regions with limited evidence that is performs better in the North (108%).  

• It performs across soil types, including lighter soils, and early indications suggest that it is best grown as a first wheat in spite of it having a good eyespot resistance score (6).  

• It is a fast-developing variety and is best suited to October and later drilling due to its moderate disease resistance and stem strength.

• KWS Fowlmere is tall but it responds well to growth regulators (91 cm treated, 83 cm untreated). In spite of this, lodging is pretty average (7 -pgr, 6 +pgr) so avoid very fertile land and apply a robust pgr programme.

• Disease resistance is only moderate with mildew (5 RL), yellow rust (5 RL, 4 Agrii), brown rust (5 RL, 6 Agrii), Septoria tritici (6 RL, 5 Agrii) and Fusarium ear blight (7). As a consequence it is a high input-high output variety.  

• Resistant to orange wheat blossom midge.
