✚ The highest yielding wheat in Agrii and AHDB trials

Variety Positioning

• KWS Aintree was the highest-yielding winter wheat in Agrii’s trials in 2025 (108% treated, 71% untreated) and mirrored the results of the AHDB (110 treated, 85% treated).

• It has a relatively high specific weight (78.7 kg/hl).  

• It performed well in spite of the fact the resistance to yellow rust is effectively below minimum standards.  Consequently it is a high-input, high-output variety but its high yield will no doubt attract some growers.    

  It appears to be very consistent across years, regions and soil types.

• First and second wheat performance is also consistent although eyespot resistance is only ranked as moderate (5.5).

• It’s also performed well in early-drill and late-drill trials but disease susceptibility may preclude this in practice so it is probably best suited to the main drilling window. 

• It has tall straw that responds well to plant growth regulators (80 cm treated, 93 cm untreated) with reasonable standing ability (7 treated, 7 untreated) and medium-early maturity (0).

• Yellow rust is its main weakness due to the recent breakdown in the YR15 gene.  With a low rating (3 RL, 2 Agrii), growers will have to monitor it carefully and use a robust fungicide program as routine.  

• It is average against other foliar disease including brown rust (5 RL, 6 Agrii), Septoria tritici (6 RL, 6 Agrii) and ear Fursarium (5).  

• Resistant to orange wheat blossom midge.
