✚ A non-RL hard feed wheat variety with high yields
✚ Outstanding disease resistance and yield resilience
Variety Positioning
-
A non-Recommended List variety but with plenty to offer.
-
This hard feed variety has performed strongly over the past three years with consistently high yields (107% treated, 82% untreated) and average specific weight (73.3 kg/hl).
-
Suitable across the UK excluding areas of high sterility risk and attracting particular interest due to its excellent Septoria tritici resistance.
-
Best sown in the main drilling window through to the end of October.
-
Suitable for all soil types including light land but performs best as a first wheat.
-
Relatively tall (94 cm) with reasonable stem stiffness (6) when treated. Good competitiveness against grassweeds and later to mature (+5).
-
A strong set of disease scores with mildew (6) yellow rust (6), brown rust (5) and Septoria tritici (7). Fitzroy’s yellow rust rating dropped back this season (previously 8) due to the breakdown in YR15 resistance. It does not appear to have been as badly affected as some other other varieties that depend on this source of genetic resistance.
-
Septoria remains the priority disease and the other good Septoria-resistant varieties, namely Palladium, Typhoon, Champion and Mayflower have all been affected to a similar or greater extent.
-
Fitzroy is not resistant to orange wheat blossom midge.
