SY Armadillo
Breeder: Syngenta | Printable PDF |
Type: 6-row Feed | Hybrid Barley |
Variety Positioning
- High yields (106%
treated, 85% treated) in official trials with an excellent specific weight (68.4 kg/hl). Relatively stiff and a potential successor to replace or to sit alongside Belfry. Not added to the UK Recommended List.
- Suitable for all regions of the UK and all soil types and best drilled in the main drilling window through to the middle of October. SY Armadillo has excelled in a light land situation based on Syngenta trials. Like all hybrid barley varieties, it is likely to be very competitive against grassweeds but this is still being confirmed in trials.
- Similar height to Bazooka (111 cm) and relatively stiff (7) so this will be attractive to growers who have struggled to keep their hybrid crops standing. A robust PGR programme is still advised. It has relatively early maturity (0), similar to Belfry.
- It has relatively good disease resistance against mildew (5), brown rust (6), Rhynchosporium (7) and net blotch (5) in official trials. Resistant to Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus.
