A busy month at Throws Farm
This month has been a busy one here at Throws Farm as I’m sure it has been around the country. We’re now fully drilled up on spring wheat, spring barley, spring oats, spring oilseed rape, spring linseed, spring beans and we even have a soya bean trial, which is a first for us. It’s also been full steam ahead on herbicide trials, completing a lot of applications that in a normal year would have been applied much earlier. Fungicide spraying has also been a priority along with PGR treatments and the crops are progressing very quickly now so it’s going to be a very busy time getting everything on when it needs to be.
Work has begun in earnest now on the site redevelopment – Trenches are entrenching upon the yard and we now have a couple of temporary ‘buildings’ (the green containers in the picture) replacing those due to be knocked down. Work is scheduled to last a little over a year so we expect to be settled in before harvest 2014.
