Expanded R&D Programme for Vegetable Growers

Field trials and technical advice on the most important vegetable agronomy problems are to be significantly expanded across the country from this season, following the creation of new industry leader, Agrii.

Building on the complementary strengths of Masstock and UAP, the expansion arises directly from the business’ commitment to delivering a class-leading, research-based agronomy service for UK growers.  

“This season we’re running well over 500 dedicated trial plots at a growing number of sites to support specialist advice from our 50-strong team of field vegetable agronomists,” explains Agrii Horticultural Technical Manager, Chris Wallwork.  “And we’re planning to further increase both the scale and scope of our field vegetable work significantly over the year and beyond.

“Our research, development and advisory programme extends to all types of field vegetables, including salad crops. We are currently investigating a wide range of weed control options and strategies to address the difficulties caused by the serious loss of valuable herbicide chemistry. At the same time, linked to our network of weather stations across the UK, we are actively developing our range of pest and disease forecasting and treatment services.”
