15t challenge field update
Who would have thought back in the end of March when the crops were not visible under a thick carpet of snow that a mere three months later we would experience a month long heat wave of temperatures close to 30 degrees?
The challenge crop at Wilton is now well into grainfill with all applications applied and up to date. With a lot of crops now burning off in the hot arid conditions, the 15t challenge field remains in good condition. The underlying chalk throughout the area is now a lifeline for the crop acting like a sponge supplying water. The bright conditions have been fantastic for grainfill, but the high temperatures have on some days inhibited photosynthesis and no doubts shortened grainfill.
The hope now is for the settled weather to remain through to the end of harvest!
