Herefordshire farmer and Agrii customer starts new mental health charity

Herefordshire farmer and Agrii customer Sam Stables has been making headlines in recent months for his efforts in helping to raise the profile of the importance of mental health within the farming community. He and his wife Emily were inspired to set up a new charity called We are Farming Minds after Mr Stables experienced his own mental health battles.

The charity is soon to be registered and once fully up and running aims to increase awareness of mental health, starting with the farming community in Herefordshire, and to remove the stigma surrounding it through targeting social isolation and signposting to professionals and organisations who can offer support. They will also be providing mental health training to those who visit farms, such as vets and animal health specialists. As time goes on and the charity develops, they also hope to be able to offer their own counselling service and 24 hour helpline.

As tenants of the Duchy of Cornwall estate, HRH Prince Charles has commended the Stables’ work so far and even sent a hand-written letter to Mr Stables, as well as a significant start-up donation for the charity.
